Project 2: Green Gifting - Bambusa

  1. At first I was a little hesitant with this product idea but in the end you really proved everyone wrong with how well produced and beautiful the final model ended up being! With this being said I feel it lacks a little bit in creating an emotional connection with the user in the sense of how they can continue to feel that connection over a period of time. Your posters all turned out beautifully and flow in well with the product, they really emphasise the minimalist vibe and the strength of the bamboo being the main feature. Overall, a product you should be very proud of with so many future buyers at your hands which was evident in the comments today! Well done Viv!

  2. I like the simple and elegant shape of your product. The posters were also very well done. I think however it lacks interaction with the end user. Although I like how your design can portray a certain message to other people.

  3. Bambusa is a great idea! So trendy, so now! I would totally buy one if they were on the market right now. Money clips have recently risen to popularity again helping us deal with our 100$ Bills, so what’s not to love? The environmental credentials are also something to put your mind at ease, especially considering sustainability is big on a lot of people’s shopping lists these days. Your rationale is beautifully laid out, clear, concise and uncluttered. Bravo!

PS, does the name have anything to do with the USA? Just a thought.

  4. Viv,

This design caught my eye in the studio yesterday. I thought the design style and layout you chose was very effective, intuitive and clear to follow. A well conceived gift concept with a natural aesthetic offers something new to the market. A cool idea backed up with its own packaging followed through nicely. Well done.

    1. Viv, could I add an additional remark?

I'm wondering if the green credentials of the gift could be expanded by reducing the packaging volume of the money clip considering that it is quite a small object and might not need a container which is largely empty space? I've never used a money clip but I'm wondering if a latch or a hook at the end of the clip could help secure items which could dislodge?

      Cheers,

  5. Where can i buy one!.. Love the design, you really have provided an elegant and tasteful product that suits the brief. Using bamboo is an excellent material of choice to deal with the recyclability! but on the other hand how strong is the money clip and how will it with stand constant use! The constant theme in your rationale is well done and provides a continued flow for the user. Overall an amazing outcome!

  6. Gimme gimme gimme! I'm glad you stuck it out with this concept, despite what naysayers (*cough*) thought of it, it's a product i'd happily use when trying to flash my sustainability side at pretentious design conferences and the like. Clean, simple, elegant, cheap (?); it's genuinely a product that should be sold. Speaking of, I believe i'm owed a promotional consideration.

    Well done!

  7. Viv, they say that big things come in small boxes and this is exactly what you have achieved, i would like to congratulate you on a great idea, overall the use of bamboo worked very well and gave a clean and fresh look to your overall design.
    well done viv.

  8. Great idea, and love the packaging - although it's a little ironic that the packaging is slightly large / wasteful for such a small / environmentally friendly product. I know it's recycled cardboard, but still! I wonder if the box could be re-used and folded into a wallet or something. 0_o.

  9. The simplicity of your product is what creates so much appeal. When people look at it, they immediately know exactly how and why it will work for them. The fact that it is not such an expensive or complex item means that people are more likely to commit to buying one or trying it out which I think is a very powerful selling point. Great design lies in simplicity and I think you have achieved just that.

  10. I really like this money clip! its great, simple and stylist. However the packaging is a bit too big for a small and slim money clip. Nevertheless its an awesome product

  11. This really caught my eye in studio. It was such a simple but beautiful gift idea. Your presentation seems clear and well-presented, so well done. Also loved the name, and that you created the packaging for it. Just a suggestion, if Bambusa ever becomes a consumer item, I think it would sell the product more if the gifter had the ability to have it monogrammed with their receivers initials to personalize it.

  13. I really like the aesthetic of the bamboo in the use of this products and it could really bring a new life to current fashion trends. The sustainability of the product is also a major factor into how good this product is as a green gift where it can eventually go back into the ecosystem without causing any problems.
